If you have not heard her sing, please check her on youtube performing live in a club in NJ her own arrangement of Autumn Leaves. I first heard this on her album imagining it was a studio recording. I was blown away to see that it was her singing and accompanying herself on guitar live in front of a few folks.performshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01195810921311179429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12901178.post-43865301141664895222011-02-16T18:22:42.862-06:002011-02-16T18:22:42.862-06:00Here's another "pitchy" member of th...Here's another "pitchy" member of the Amen Chorus, Randy. I "pretty much" agree with everything you wrote. And such a thrill it is to read your blog, experiencing a version of the Mphs of my youth. "The girls" want me to show for the annual reunion luncheon this summer. If I still have teeth, I might show up. PS So, what about the Prez mentioning you, Sputnik, a few times during the State of the Nation speech? Gosh dern, he had me humming "Telstar."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12901178.post-54767789722560627822011-02-15T22:03:04.545-06:002011-02-15T22:03:04.545-06:00Randy

The Black-Eyed Peas ... wha??? WTF was that all about?<br /><br />The Grammies is one car wreck I simply refuse to look at. This email from Maria Muldaur pretty much sums it up: <br /><br />"To my utter surprise & delight, I have just been invited to sing at the Grammy Award Ceremony on February 13th in a special segment celebrating 'Women In The Blues'...<br /><br />We'll perform on Sunday afternoon during the portion of the ceremony where they give out the awards for all the 'real' music (you know - Blues, Blue Grass, Folk, etc). The glitz-y, glam-y, bling-flashin', hip-hop/rap/pop part of the program is televised later that day."CaryinBoulderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05822903701279366708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12901178.post-61579619052804868302011-02-15T07:48:16.632-06:002011-02-15T07:48:16.632-06:00Thanks Randy. Or, is that just the bias of old age. I don't think so. As far as I am concerned music all but died somewhere in the late 80's. It has become so bad that this former rocker has turned to jazz and contemporary folk. There is some great folk music being done these days. Check out Folkalley.com for a treat. I am in the midst of re-discovering Jackie Wilson. Did anybody see Jackie's performance in Memphis in August of 1964? What do you think of Jackie Wilson as a singer, Sputnik? I think that he didn't receive his due. What a powerful, passionate singer that guy was. The boomers were raised on soul and R&B. One confession. maybe I am a perv, but I kind of like Lady Ga-ga. She is the 80's all over again. Sort of like Madonna on LSD.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12901178.post-90321630922139784352011-02-14T12:16:53.428-06:002011-02-14T12:16:53.428-06:00to the person who saw Mic Jager better in 1965, sh...to the person who saw Mic Jager better in 1965, shit ..... who wasnt better in 1965?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12901178.post-47934835631108995632011-02-14T11:10:42.315-06:002011-02-14T11:10:42.315-06:00Jagger sucked! And Marvin Gaye's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was a treat for these worn-out ears. There's just something about singing unembellished that escapes many singers - people just can't step out of the way of sound and trust that it will be 'enough'. Is it our 'super-sized' society? <br />Anyway, thanks again for your swift and wise take on yesterday's Grammies!Willard Morganhttp://www.willardmorgan.comnoreply@blogger.com
