Waiting For Goredot

The only thing more exhilarating than seeing Al Gore win the Nobel Peace Prize was watching the dead-end Republicans squirm and fester like petulant children who's football team just lost the big game. The whole thing was rigged. It was the referees. It was the fuzzy math. But as far as American Presidential candidates who have won the Nobel Peace Prize, the score is Democrats-3, Republicans-1. The Nobel Prize Committee can't be played, yet the mini-Goebbels cable talkers tried to make it sound like Oslo was rebuking King Chuckles. Who did the GOP shills think it would go to, President "Bring 'Em On?" Of course, Henry Kissinger has one, but then, so did Yasser Arafat. But not the old, cold warrior Ronnie Ray-gun, or "Line in the Sand," Bush the Elder. You actually have to be a peacemaker to be rewarded this prize.

Because I am now old and irritable and had just returned from an Endoscopy, I thought it would be amusing and help revive me from a Demerol haze if I watched the Gore coverage on Fox News. Can these Bushney zombie zealots not consider the fact that one of the world's most prestigious awards went to a deserving American who has devoted his entire public career, often in the face of ridicule, to raise awareness to the dangers of climate change? But, how do you get Luddites who don't accept evolution to believe global warming is anything else but God's will? Still, it might have been refreshing to see some grudging appreciation for the man's accomplishment from this obscenity against journalism that passes for a news network.

Instead, Fox went into full, live attack mode. We were treated to a panel with actor Jay Thomas, who spoke as if he had just been beaned by a Curt Schilling fastball, asking what the big deal was over a factually incorrect movie. Gore's left-wing show-biz friends put in the old Hollywood shuffle to the prize committee, just like they did at the Oscars. He was joined by a child-blond named Cheri Jacobuss, not a half-decade off an anchor desk at Eyewitless News somewhere, speaking venomous bile for the right as calmly as an original cast member of "Village of the Damned." She couldn't imagine what Gore's work, or this U.N. Committee he shared the award with, had anything to do with peace. She concluded her sour diatribe by saying, "No one can name the Nobel Peace Prize winners from year to year anyway."

I raised my hand and shouted, "I can." If not from every year, some real winners, like Oscar Arias Sanchez, President of Costa Rica who helped bring peace to Central America, or Mother Theresa, Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat. Nelson Mandela, Yitzhak Rabin, Le Duc Tho, or Martin Luther King, Jr. Mr. Gore joined a highly distinguished company today, show some goddamned respect. Do they have special Journalism schools with different rules to train the Jello-heads, or have we become numb to this ideological carjacking of the airwaves to promote discredited drivel from a frantic fringe of pseudo-philosophical fools? Later in the evening, Fox had different discussions about whether Mr. Gore is too fat to run for president, or if the Nobel committee only awards the prize to people who wreck the economy, like Jimmy Carter, awarded for his humanitarian work around the world.

After Gore's brief and eloquent statement in receiving the award, of the three cable news networks, only MSNBC continued with a discussion about the prize's effect on Gore's future. CNN and Fox immediately cut to breaking news about the terminally dead Anna Nicole Smith. The Fox "News" gang could have learned something from Al Gore today that they overlooked in 2000 as well, magnanimity in victory, and graciousness in defeat. I've made my support known for Al Gore in these posts before, (Clinton's Sin,12/5/05; Al Gore, "Soul Man," 1/30/07; and Gore/Obama, 7/8/07), so I need not repeat myself, other than my consistent belief that he is the best qualified candidate for President in 85 years. This year alone, he's captured the trifecta; the Oscar, The Emmy, and the Nobel Prize. Why not go for the cycle?

Gore said today that he would continue to bring the urgency of climate change to the people and governments of the world. Hey Al! You wanna' do something serious about reversing the damage of global warming? Run for President of the United States. You have the knowledge, the moral authority, and you are the only candidate who can stop Hillary Clinton. Perhaps it's also time to acknowledge that maybe it would have been wiser to vote for the smart guy who dedicated his life to public service, rather than the amiable novice who's personality you kind of liked but really didn't know. After almost seven years, who's been the better "steward" of the Lord's creation?

Pure poetry. You set me off into a giddy rhapsodic pulsatile frenzy in my apartment with a lot of singing and shouting and finally an Al Jolsen tune. This same response will occur in streets all over the United States on the day after the election of 2008 when the cretin who would be king and all of his band of jolly sado-blood suckers are kicked out onto their respective asses into the streets where they'll be free to crawl with the rats and vermin who prefer their company. If you stop and think about it, the only time there is singing in the streets after a change in leadership is if a malignant dictator is removed.......a la Mussolini or Ceacesceau. Well, when it happens what do you think it will mean here? I bring this point to the table because the Ox News Channel will get its comeuppance with some just desserts that will be difficult to blather away on that not too distant day in Nov of 08. Then hopefully Al will get a platform on which to help manifest his vision. And the rest of the world (which is also populated with bipeds who have the same feelings about most things as the ones who were oh so very fortunate to be born in Kansas {where the "real" god lives} do) will finally have my country as a real player in the search for intelligent answers to questions of health, welfare, inalienable rights, etc., which all require a working environment on the planet as a base for same.

For God's Sakes, I'm sorry, but I just don't sit and smile easily when such heights of stupidity are put in my face......a la Ox News. And the sheer stupidity of being cheerleaders (Ox) for a group of people who would not take the miracle of each human life as seriously as their leadership positions should require should turn us all into insurgents.

Hope your endoscopy went well.

Nice comments, I'd like to see Al jump into the race. By the way, didn't I see a photo of both you and The VP not too long ago in "The Land of Milk & Honey", Eretz Yisrael?

Egad!! This blog is a freak show...a regurgatorium for the uber-left. Do you folks only come out at night? I hear commentators on talk shows make hushed references about the far left, but I have never been exposed to its hideous under-belly till now...crazier than seven hells.

Wait 'till you hear what I really think.

Relax, my irrepressible sense of humor overcame me. I was just rattling your cages. This blog is fascinating, but then I have always been interested in abnormal psychology, extraneous thinking, and deviated points of view. In a very real sense that I don't like to admit, in many ways I am one of you. I probably would agree with you on 60% of the issues and find some points of concurrence on even more. I listen carefully to the liberal point of view on the various talk shows to see if I can find any points of agreement. I am not as rad as some of the folks here who damn all conservatism to the pit of hell. I don't diparage liberals that I disagree with...I simply say that I do not agree with their point of view. But, who knows, perhaps I am wrong and they are right and someday I might see eye-to-eye with them on a given issue. Like I have said before, I am too liberal for the conservatives and too conservative for the liberals. I hope that you don't have a 'one drop rule' that would exclude anyone who had a conservative view or two. Generally speaking, I tend to be very socially liberal, but pretty economically conservative. True liberals are all about tolerance, after all. I used to be very conservative, but have moved quite a bit to the left, at least socially. And who knows some folks on this blog could move me even further left-ward. Education has its place in the grand design. Sometimes an issue can be framed in such a way that affords one a new paradigm in its regard and the conversion process kicks in. It's best not to throw the baby out with the bath water. You might grow to like the baby after a while.

I used to scorn liberals, like many of you scorn conservatives. But, I had a revelation of sorts. I saw that progress is a result of the struggles between the liberal point of view and that of conservatives. Conservatives tend to cling to the status quo, but common sense tells you that some of the status quo is not good and must go. On the other hand, liberals or progressives tend to see the need for change for the greater good. Some of their ideas are lame, but some have validity. As a result of this tension, stable change for the better (hopefully) proceeds. That which has been established from the past and proves worthy of keeping is kept (conservatism) while the constructive and valid proposals for change (liberalism) are adopted. This is called progress. If the situation becomes too conservative, stagnation and perhaps injustice results. If things move too fast and poor progressive ideas are adopted things begin to fall apart. The point is that there is an ideal balance betwwen the two apparently conflicting points of view. This perspective keeps me from rejecting too quickly liberal points of view and from clinging neurotically to conservative positions. We all have a place in the grand design. I cringe when some on this blog view all conservatism with such extreme antipathy. It reminds me of the way that I used to be in regard to liberalism. Can't we all just get along?

Randy, rather than have people make inferences regarding your positions on issues, why not write a position piece where you tell your vision of the 'good society' and briefly state some of your ideas on how to get there. I figure that progressives must have some kind of a blueprint for where they are going and how to get there. For instance, are you a capitalist with a few socialist tendencies, or an outright socialist, or a communist who would like for everyone to work for the state and live in public housing, wear black pajamas, and ride bicycles?

OUR LEADERS ARE ALL IDIOTS!!!!! THEY ARE COWARDS AND FOOLS.

All of the participants involved in the elephants vs. the donkey game are idiots. They fiddle while Rome burns. They are consumed with their petty egos and turf battles while the common man drowns. You spend all of your time and energy pointing fingers at the Republicans, and they deserve it, but the Democrats are just as despicable. They are all toilet fish who chase one another down the sewer. It slays me that you folks put your hopes in Democrats...it's just tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum. All the Dems are going to do is take more of our money and rat-hole more of it, to say nothing of putting us all in danger from the terrorists by their naive dovishness. And yes, the Republicans do suck. We are all screwed from a lack of truly wise and courageous leaders who can rise about petty partisan politics and get us out of the morass that we are all drowning in. The Dems will win in '08, but I'll guarantee you that our situation will be worse 8 years later when the next dolts will get their chance to muck things up. I just hope that I can afford to eat after the Dems get through with us.

Ever notice that this country has always had a justice problem? The little people tend to be steamrolled. One of my greatest fears is to be caught up in this country's so-called justice system...even if I should be innocent. I have just recently been made aware of the prevalence of prosecutorial misconduct (over and above the Duke incident) and I am staggered by it. Check out the Joe Francis situation, for instance.

There is no truth (or justice) outside the Gates of Eden. That is why all of you blow hards are wasting your breath. But, rave on...I guess the proverbial tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury but signifying nothing, will go on ad nauseum forever and ever.

Yeah, well you have to kill time in some way or another while waiting for the end of all things. Blowing political smoke is as good as any. It can be entertaining in its own morbid way.

Someone please tell me that this is not true. I heard that Gore was selected for the Nobel over a woman who was instrumental in saving thousands of Jewish children from being exterminated by the Germans. This has got to be untrue. If it is true, then the Nobel is just another piece of political bullshit, and if Gore had any honor he would give the prize to that woman and kiss her feet.

Yeah? Whatever...
