Tempest In A Tea Party

Mark Williams, the Chairman of the Tea Party Express, got booted from the Confederacy of Dunces last month because, in response to an NAACP suggestion that the group repudiate racial elements within the movement, he wrote and published an "Open letter to President Lincoln" from the emancipated slaves, something he referred to as "satire."  The full text of the knee-slapping missive is worthy of examination, because it reveals more about the writer than the subject, and shows something about the common beliefs of a great many Americans. In his "satire," all Williams did was put down in words what many Tea Party types refuse to say out loud.

           Dear Mr. Lincoln
We Coloreds have taken a vote and decided that we don’t cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop.
In fact we held a big meeting and took a vote in Kansas City this week. We voted to condemn a political revival of that old abolitionist spirit called the ‘tea party movement’.
The tea party position to “end the bailouts” for example is just silly. Bailouts are just big money welfare and isn’t that what we want all Coloreds to strive for? What kind of racist would want to end big money welfare? What they need to do is start handing the bail outs directly to us coloreds! Of course, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is the only responsible party that should be granted the right to disperse the funds.
And the ridiculous idea of “reduce[ing] the size and intrusiveness of government.” What kind of massa would ever not want to control my life? As Coloreds we must have somebody care for us otherwise we would be on our own, have to think for ourselves and make decisions!
The racist tea parties also demand that the government “stop the out of control spending.” Again, they directly target coloreds. That means we Coloreds would have to compete for jobs like everybody else and that is just not right.
Perhaps the most racist point of all in the tea parties is their demand that government “stop raising our taxes.” That is outrageous! How will we coloreds ever get a wide screen TV in every room if non-coloreds get to keep what they earn? Totally racist! The tea party expects coloreds to be productive members of society?
Mr. Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Three squares, room and board, all our decisions made by the massa in the house. Please repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments and let us get back to where we belong.
Sincerely
Precious Ben Jealous, Tom’s Nephew NAACP Head Colored Person
Laugh? I thought I'd never start! How can you convince someone there is racism in their midst when it runs in their blood and they don't even know what it looks like? A week later, Williams was still on cable news defending his remarks by saying the NAACP was guilty of reverse racism, which appears to be the Tea Party's prime rebuttal  for all the "patriotic Americans'" outrageous behavior at the various kleagle rallies around the nation. These "concerned citizens" don't like it when their ultra-rightist movement is called "racist." They defy you to prove any member of their group called Rep. John Lewis a "nigger" while simultaneously gutting ACORN with false propaganda. Their new hero, Kentucky senatorial candidate Rand Paul, can't deviate from his Libertarian philosophy enough to agree that segregated lunch counters in the Fifties were a bad thing. He expressed the still burning racist ember that private businesses should be able to choose who they serve. Not if they serve the public, they don't. If someone wishes to start a private club that caters exclusively to Caucasian, dwarf albinos, that is their right, but if you are serving the public, that means all the public. And I don't believe for a second that Paul is a racist. However, when I grew out my beard and started hanging around with people with long hair, they called me a hippie. So, if the sheet fits...

The term "yellow journalism" was created in the late 1800's to describe the sensationalist rhetoric and fabricated stories of newspapers owned by William Randolph Hearst, particularly the New York Journal.  As influential as newspapers were in the last century, not even Hearst could have imagined a 24-hour "news" network continually pumping out anti-government propaganda for the benefit of a particular political party, or entire radio empires built on hatred and fear-mongering. The Hearst of the 21st century, Rupert Murdoch, became a naturalized U.S. citizen in order to own multiple media outlets in the same market, like the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal. His brand of  contemporary "yellow journalism" is far more insidious than the sabre rattling of a few newspapers, and makes the "Remember the Maine," jingoism of the Hearst era seem almost quaint. With Fox News acting as a running-dog for right-wing extremism, pseudo-smart "entertainers" like Glen Beck get free reign to espouse their inflammatory "theories." So, when a real journalist, like the Washington Post's Dana Milbank, calls Beck out for his serial use of Nazi references to describe the Obama administration, the right's reaction is to claim that the country is experiencing a phase of "political correctness," in which their freedom of speech is under attack. They have become oblivious to the difference between "free speech" and "hate speech," and the saddest and most alarming statement of all about Fox News is their massive ratings success and rabid, "true-believer" folllowing.

A typical Fox "story" comes from out-of-the-mainstream, internet sources, like the ACORN "prostitution sting," or the most recent running expose' about the "New Black Panther Party." Fox flogged the story for weeks and Bill O'Reilly pondered aloud why the other news organizations were "avoiding" the issue. Then it turned out that the "Party" consisted of two, baton-wielding wannabe radicals hanging around an overwhelmingly African-American polling station "intimidating voters" into casting their ballots for Obama. When that poisoned well ran dry, Fox virtually leaped on blogger and Tea Party apologist Andrew Breitbart's odious contention that reverse racism existed at the Department of Agriculture in the person of one Shirley Sherrod. By slicing and dicing Sherrod's speech before the NAACP, he made a convincing argument that she was discriminating against white people out of what was actually a story of redemption. Had anyone been paying attention, WorldNetDaily had reported on a July 16th appearance at a Fargo, N.D. talk radio program where Breitbart said, "Let me say something a tad newsworthy to the president of the NAACP. You can go to hell." He then bragged, "I have tapes, a tape, of racism, and it's an NAACP dinner. You want to play with fire? I have evidence of racism and it's coming from the NAACP." The law states that if you defame a person's reputation with feckless accusations with the intention of smearing them, it's called "libel," and it's a prosecutable offense. I only hope that after Ms. Sherrod sues Breitbart's ass off, she goes after Fox News.

I confess that I was fooled too. When I saw the initial reports and video of Sherrod on Fox News, I thought that she must certainly resign, and the outrage of the Obama administration and the NAACP was justified. They made the same mistake that I did by assuming that Fox was a semi-responsible news organization that abides by the rules of journalism. How foolish of me. Fox News President Roger Ailes knows what his boss wants as surely as if he were William Randolph Hearst. This current Fox "reverse racism" crusade is in keeping with Ailes past deeds like advising Richard Nixon on appealing to southern, white voters, and orchestrating "Poppy" Bush's presidential campaign against Michael Dukakis by tying the Massachusetts Governor to paroled rapist, Willie Horton, in a famous negative political ad. When questioned about the propriety of the controversial commercial, Ailes said his only hesitation was whether to picture Horton with or without a knife. Why should I have assumed Fox News vetted the Breitbart piece when he was the one behind the story and video of ACORN's adventures with the now felonious, fake pimp, and then spent six months lying about it? And all in the cause of proving Mark Williams' supposed point in his "satirical" letter to Lincoln, that honest, hard-working citizens' tax money goes directly to the support of shiftless layabouts who prefer "big-money welfare" to a job; the raison d'etre of the Tea Party movement. Former representative and Tea Party darling Tom Tancredo has announced his candidacy for governor of Colorado, only months after waxing nostalgic about literacy tests at the polls during the Jim Crow era. Since good test results are a pre-requisite for entering a respected college, isn't there some way we could institute civics literacy exams for potential candidates for public office? At least check their SAT scores.

Sputnik, this commentary is a great example of why no one with any sense should take you seriously...even liberals. You exhibit the most slanted, unbalanced, and dishonest journalism of anyone that I have EVER read and I do a lot of reading. I am a libertarian with a conservative bent on some issues so that means that we will not see eye-to-eye on many things. There are liberal commentators whose opinions I can respect because they operate from a base of integrity. You are not among these. You will never get a readership outside of your small choir, certainly no one with a grain of wisdom. As a case in point in regard to the current commentary, you can find racists, homophobes, Satanists, etc. in every large special interest group. But to slime millions of people based upon the misbehavior of a few simply because you do not agree with them politically consigns you to the lowest level of political thinkers. I am a Tea Party member and the regional head gave our group an inspiring dissertation on why racism is always morally wrong and has no place in the movement, which is actually about returning government to constitutionally mandated constraints and lowering taxes. I consort with many others on the internet and have not found any of the nefarious charges that you have made (in regard to the group as a whole) to be true. You sound like a racist who was once mugged by a black man and who spends the rest of his life trashing all blacks. Only your version of bigotry is political. The radical nature of the prism through which you view the world blinds you to your own rabid bigorty and prejudices. Someone once said that we are always guilty of what we condemn in others. You are the poster boy for this proverb. Sorry to say this, but someone has to...you are a joke and a throwback to Abbie Hoffman. Cut your hair, take a bath and join the rest of sane, civilized society.

Take a bath, cut your hair and join the sane society?? Are you fucking crazy? Who are you Sputniks father? And getting readership is not a problem for Sputsy, but you being an asshole is a Hugh problem. Of course I don't know you , at least I hope I don't. But I'm thinking that the tea party is a great place for you.You know what they say about "birds of a feather." Could you be my long lost father from 1960? He was a prick too. And how do you know how long Sputniks hair is----- are you a stalker, and the bath thing is strange too. Let's face it you have your opinion just like everyone else, same with assholes . Thank god we don't all agree on everything. But we do agree that your a DICK.

Ah! Anon 6:27 PM, I love your response because it shows that you are an ineloquent, fuzzy thinking mental midget. Of course, being one of lower consciousness you will never really grasp what I just said. Unintelligent people are incapable of realizing the depth of their own benighted condition. It must be some sort of inborn defense mechanism to keep them from commiting suicide. I have often said that Sputnik's choir is largely unenlightened and even semi-literate, and you have helped to make my case. Have you ever read a book all the way through, or had a coherent thought? I didn't think so. But, keep posting your drivel anyway. I find it entertaining in a perverse sort of way. And, if you weren't such an asshole I might be able to feel some compassion for your condition. Ignorance can be overcome, but stupid is a life sentence...good luck.

You guys quit quarreling amongst yourselves and get back to critiquing Sputnik's penchant for far-left yellow journalism and bigotry against anyone who is not a fire-breathing radical. I'll bet that he did learn his chops from nuts cases like Abbey Hoffman and Jerry Rubin. He seems to be trapped in a late sixties time warp. I'd even be willing to bet that he still carries his Yippie membership card. Someone needs to take him under their wing, get him to throw away his Che tee-shirts, and help him to evolve. It has to be tough to live in 2010 with a fixed 1969 mindset.

"The Truth From My Eyes"??!! Are you f-ing shitting me? That is a sacriledge and blasphemes the very nature of Truth. Better come up with a new, more appropriate logo. Maybe something like, "Distorted Bullshit From My Eyes". But, on second thought the qualifier "from my eyes" can be taken to vindicate Truth. One must always consider the source before buying into what the source is selling. Ask Adam and Eve.

Maybe mandatory miscegenation will be the order of the day once we lose this one, Randy; i can't see any other way these racist fools will ever mend their ways.

Boy, did you tell me! Cut my hair? I haven't heard that in over 40 years which is how anachronistic your thinking is.
You seem like someone who can put a sentence together and must notice those around you. I can respect an honest disagreement about fiscal matters and the size of government, but where were you when we needed you? I'm happy your regional lieutenant gave an inspiring talk about racism, but look around at the leaders of your movement. At least Abbie Hoffman had a sense of humor. You've got Dick Armey, Tom Tancredo, Sarah Palin, Glen Beck, Michelle Bachmann, John Boehner, and Jon Kyl, not to mention Limbaugh, Hannity, Malkin, and Savage.
If that's the team you choose to be on pal, I'm happy to oppose you every day I am able.
I don't assert anything here that is unresearched, so if you wish to check on the veracity of any of my allegations, there's this new thing called "Google." Use it.

Abbie, You know you've hit the truth when one of your Tea Party fans lashes out and tells you to cut your hair and take a bath. Old racists never give up on that line, somehow still believing it is a clever thing to say. What is transparent is how they hide behind 'fiscal responsibility' after 8 years of Bush splurging with his national credit card. Today we have one of 'them' occupying the House of White and they get all righteous and sanctified about the bill. It almost makes you wish McCain had won so that the party who ran up the bill would have to deal with the mess. But knowing how that would have only given them a liscense to pilfer for their buddies for another term, it wasn't worth the risk. We are faced with the same problem Roosevelt confronted after a century of lassaiz-faire capitalism, and the party boys get upset. Down here in the Heart of Dixie we know their game and are not fooled with their tactics. Us white boys who got called nasty names when standing up to these bigots when we were kids know they find comfort in the Tea Party after they have become adults. Gotta go now...time for me to cut my hair and take a bath.

George Bush was a RINO. He paved the way for a Democrat president in 2008. I have never defended him. The Bush Doctrine was sheer insanity. And if you will notice, I never applaud or even mention the Republicans. They are inept. The Repubs are only slightly less reprehensible than the Dems. So, call me what you will, but don't call me a Republican or a Bush supporter. You people are so whacked out over race. There must be some sort of medical term for the condition. Every sane person that I know realizes that those who build and sustain society come from all races and those who tear society down come from all races. The most that I hear about race comes from liberals. There is a small element of virulent racists and you people make them out to constitute 90% of the conservative element in this country. You are either ignorant or willfully dishonest. The reason that I hammer Sputnik is that he is a political whore for the liberal establishment and wouldn't recognize the truth if it sat in his lap. Actually, I don't think that he is ignorant and I know that he is not stupid. He is just dishonest and completely lacks balance in his views. I will at least admit that liberals have had some good ideas and have done some good things. The idea is balance. If everyone was a conservative they would screw the country up. If everyone was a liberal we would go down the tubes as well. Is there no place for balance on this blog? Must it always be that the conservatives are knuckle-dragging Neanderthals who hate everyone but their own kind and all of the other lame pejoratives that are used here? This is just a left-wing smear machine. For that reason no one will take it seriously except for Sputnik's tiny little choir.

1. The Administration asked and received Shirley Sherrod resignation before it ever was on Fox news.
2. Breitbart’s original post was 2 videos. I watched them and I realized that the point of the videos was not Sherrod but the reaction of the audience. It was also obvious to the unbiased viewer that it was a story of a turning point, but the audience reaction was the key.
3. The second video further showed the story as a turning point story.
4. I watched ABC. CBS & NBC stories and when they showed the Breibart videos the sound of the audience was edited out. The main question is why did they edit out the audience reaction?
5. The first time the video was mentioned on the Beck show he was defending her.

Having never written here previously to the earlier post, I was getting ready to give my name when my wife walked in and said "what are you doing?"
I told her and she wanted to read it. "No way in hell am I going to let you put the lives of MY children in jeopardy by letting you give your real name!", she said. Why not, I explained, they all have Black Belts. "Listen, she said, you've fought these bubbas your whole life, you've been beat up and had broken noses, all in the name of social justice. What you did as a kid was your business, but you have no right to risk THEIR safety!" The truth is, I'll take on these rednecks anytime, but I will not take on my wife when she's put her foot down. "Think of some name. What name did they call you before a fight?" she asked. They alway called me a 'n-l commie symp' I said. "Well, use that then." End of discussion.
One thing that always puzzles me is how these folks think that by turning things in reverse, they think they've made a good point. Critical thinking is not their forte. An example would be: "I'm not a bigot just cuz I don't like 'them'. You are a bigot cuz you are against ME!" Huh? Another would be: " You made us burn down that Black Church cuz you caused 'them' to get all uppity!" Huh? Too weird.
Mark Williams, CHAIRMAN, (as in LEADER) of the Tea Party Express, writes a racist letter with all the racist thinking of a bygone era, and he calls it 'satire'. He gets canned but somehow he wasn't wrong. We are wrong to call it racist, so we are bigots against him and the Tea Party. Too weird.
There is a nasty ill wind blowing again in the country. The backward thinking are mobilizing under a new banner. This new banner has many flags of the past underneath the it. We've seen it in the late 30's as those angered and dispossessed by the Great Depression in Europe turned their hatred toward the Jews. We've seen it in South Africa under apartheid, and we've seen it here in the South as a symbol of our 'Southern Heritage'. The final overlay is the flag of the Tea Party. The code words are all there, and the understanding is there.
I'll never forget an interview with a David Duke supporter during a rally after Duke had put on a suit and tie and cleaned up his language, all in an effort to change his image. The TV interviewer asked what the supporter thought of the new 'look'? "It don't matter", said the supporter with a sly smile, "we know what he's talking about!"

dear anonymous,

have been reading your comments for some time and want to offer perspective.

my political/social views and solutions usually come out of the great middle. can usually find myself in there between richard lugar and bill clinton.

i have lived in or near memphis, tennessee all my life.

once, when i was a 28 year old store manager (1964) living in kosciusko, mississippi, i traveled on a monday, to philidelphia, mississippi where one of the stores i managed was located. it was very early, approx 6:30am. the local manager was in the office and on seeing me he called out "willie, willie, did you know they killed them two jews and a nigger last night" and then he named to me all the names.

a few minutes later i excused my self, went over into town, found a pay phone and called my boss and told him what had happened. he instruted me to leave philidelpha, go to starkville (where we had another store)and call him on arrival.

i did that. he told me that he had called the fbi and was informed that they already knew who commited the murders. and for me not to go back to philidelphia for a week.

the next week i drove back over to philidelpha.

after i entered neshoba county i noticed a police car at the top of a hill. a policeman was standing in the road with another leaning against the car. i recognized the sheriff (laurance rainey) and the deputy (cecil price).

sheriff rainey motioned me to stop, i did and he walked over and put his face so close to me that i still smell the chewing tobbaco in his mouth.

he asked "aint you senor willie"?

my mouth was so dry and i was so afraid it is hard for me to remember it today, but i answered yes.

he asked "don't you have a litte nigger name dave that works for you"?

"yes"

"i had to slap dave around last night. dave, is too smart for his own good,he knows more than is good to know". you don't have any problem with me slapping dave around"?

i don't have any memory much beyond that except to recall the sheriff was trying to get me to the point he could hurt me; and then he turned, walked to his car and left.

i went to the store and dave was so beat up as to be facialy un recognizable. he refused any assistence from me and told me he would rather turn on the gas and put his head in my oven than talk to fbi or any police.

that is a story i have only begun to tell in the last year or so. but it has always though been at the core of my distrust for any social or political way that seems to deal with those social or political opposites in ways of limitation, violence and murder.

whatever the virtues of tea party rationale i can not see or understand because the language of their expression as i hear it is the language of limitation. of "there is a deal for some and no deal for less than others". it is so much like the coded expressions in mississippi in 1964 so as to cause me to challenge you.
what is the message? what i am hearing takes me back to the bad old days and i did not see much worthy coming from them.

by the way, i love mississippi. spend most of my time there. there is a substantial "middle" there that does not talk like that; or act like that.

anyway that is all i have to say for now.

Senior Willie:
The main difference between you and I, is like the half empty or full glass. You look at the past and see how bad it all is. I look at the present and see how much progress has been made. I don't think racism is dead by any means. What I do know is it is dying fast. Probably not as fast as you would like. You need to start putting all this in perspective. If you have not noticed a major improvement in race relations in the last 46 years, you are living in a cave. What is not going to happen, no matter how hard we try, is instantly have all citizens love all races. You can’t force it. What you can do is label every criticism as racist whether warranted or not. Now what you have done is not bother the real racist, but antagonized non-racist who disagree on where the Government is headed. To disagree with the government is our most precious right, and to try and squelch that disagreement through Laws, intimidation or any other means is the opposite of what this county sands for.

The posting by Senor Willie is one of the most powerful I have ever read. It is a witnessing of the great injustice that happened in this land not that long ago. As long as those memories come forward to remind us of where we've been and where we never need to go again, we can be saved. To say that all that it is over and then to read Mark William's open letter to Lincoln is to prove the lie that it is all over. Deep in the heart of the Tea Party movement beats the heart of Sheriff Rainey. Make no mistake. I know the Sheriff Raineys of this land. I grew up with them. They are the psychos, not us. It is another example of turning it around to say we are the problem, not them. Sputnik is here to remind us, make us think, and to keep us awake. We are indebted to him for all that he does to keep the light shining and if he angers the 'libertarians', he is doing his job and doing it well. The purpose of this blog, as it is explained on Google, is to bring back those of us who. in our pursuit of money, may have forgotten the ideals of our youth. It is accomplishing that goal splendidly.

Sood, an interesting thought but long past the DNA testing period to reach any scientific conclusion, I would guess. It is thought that most of us Southern stock came from the Celts, mostly the Scotch Irish. We've been sewing our seeds just about everywhere we could, with Strom Thurmond being a prime example. On the other side of the Atlantic, long ago, the Nordish clans raped and pillaged the Isles and later, the Angles and Saxons invaded. So those Germanic roots have been passed around far and wide within the Celtic bloodlines. Being Celtic myself, and disavowing the Tea Party, this blood testing would seem inconclusive, at least here in the South. The more likely reason for being geneticly drawn to the Tea Party would be a poor education and a lower IQ. I would love to see those stats!

Do all Germans and Celts constitute hateful racist scum? Some of you apparently believe that racism is genetically inherited. For that matter what about the 20 million or so Tea Partiers? One of you implied that they were filled with people with inherited patterns of racism. You villify ALL of them according to your prejudices and hatred. Is that not painting with an overly broad brush? Are there no noble and upright Tea Partiers? I am stuuned, but thanks for revealing your hearts publicly. And I am more stunned to see that Sputnik, the purveyor of light and truth, doesn't call you on this. It is beginning to look like the spirit of Hitler is finding a welcome refuge amongst the left. The poll results were skewed, as we all know, because the only ones who answered were the ones who didn't chase away the pollsters with shotguns after the polsters identified themselves with the New York Times/CBS. One can only surmise there would have been a different polling outcome if the pollsters had identified themselves with the National Enquirer/Fox. Be that as it may, are you now a true believer of the New York Times?

Sood O'Nim you come across as a virulent racist. Some people think that as long as one's racism isn't directed toward blacks that it is OK. According to you own words you are one of these. Thanks for coming out.

Anonymous said...

NLCommieSymp your groveling, servile sycophancy is disgusting. And, no one would say that racism has disappeared. Just read the latest postings. The truth is that to be completey cleansed of racism is to be completey sanctified. Not many people fall into that category. You, like others on this blog, damn millions as racist because of the behavior of a relative few. You are as guilty of bigotry and prejudice, by your own words, as any klansman. You just villify a different group of people.

Anonymous said...

Sputnik you let your choir get away with bigotry and prejudice that you would never let others get away with. It seems that as long as they subscribe to your brand of heresy then all is permitted. That is Ok because it is your blog, but it greatly undermines your credibility. That is why I said earlier that even a fair minded liberal would not take you seriously. If I were to read the equivalent from a conservative blog, I wouldn't take that blog seriously either. Most people like to see at least a grain of balance and truthfulness in a political discourse regardless of their political persuasion. Maybe it is not malicious on your part. Maybe you can't help it. Extreme bigotry and prejudice form a subconscious filter that will only permit that which conforms to the ingrained bigotry and prejudice to come through. I understand this and like you anyway...believe it or not. I choose to focus on your more redeemable attributes.

Anonymous said...

Alan you are obviously a balanced, sane person. What a relief. But, I guess you know that no amount of factual evidence, truth, wisdom, common sense, etc. will make any difference at all to the adherents to this blog. I greatly appreciate your postings, because they add some balance to this madhouse. Now you see what we are up against...sheer unreasoning hysteria from folks who actually believe that they are enlightened. And what is worse many of their kind fill our government...God save us!! Keep on posting, please. At least I am listening.

Poor Amanda. She gives her opinion that 'libertarians' are actually not exactly who they claim to be, and Anon ( 1? 2? or 3?) suggests she should go smoke a joint and alter her state of mind. Those Anons keep turning it around to say that those who disagree with them, even Senor Willie, are the problem, not them. Which brings us back to Mark Williams, their illustrious leader, who posted his racist thesis and proved where he stands. I'm all for smoking a joint now and then but those Anons have gone through several lids already.

Amanda says that when he finds that someone is libertarian he quits reading. How unprejudicial, fair, and open minded you are! I guess that ALL libertarians are the same. According to you, they are ALL selfish, myopic, and ornery. That is like saying that ALL blacks, or ALL Jews, or ALL(fill in the blank), are ALL the same. You could qualify as the poster boy for prejudice and bigotry. Of course, your prejudice and bigotry will prevent you from seeing this.

NLCommieSymp, here is a clue. Amanda is not a she. Let me spell it out for you...A Man To Reckon With. Clear now, swami? Do you not realize that every political/philosophical position constitutes a spectrum? There are many degrees of liberal thought, conservative thought, libertarian thought, etc. Not all liberals are the same, get it? The same goes for every other philosophical camp. These things are not hard to understand for anyone who has more than a rudimentary education. No one is trying to turn things around. This is a forum for the pooling of political, etc. ideas. Ultimately, only God is right. The rest of us work from our particular backgrounds of education and experience, and whatever we have of common sense, judgment, and wisdom. We are all a work in progress. For now, I am a libertarian/conservative. I used to be a flaming liberal. My personal experience FORCED me back toward the right of the spectrum. I may have an epiphany and adopt a different philosophical stance. But, that is not likely to come from the likes of you. In the old days we spoke a lot about consciousness-raising. I guess that was before your day, but you could really use some of that.

I got it, Anon (1? 2? 3? or 4?) and Alan is a Anon with a typo, and Soon O'Dim is pseudonym. I like to play too, so I prefer to say 'she'. She is still right and you are mistaken. But I have a confession to make. I used to be a...no, I've never, ever, been a conservative except maybe when I was 10... but probably not. My confession is...I have a brother...who...is...a...yes, he is a... Tea Partier. I love him dearly, and there is nothing we won't do for each other. That blood runs deep. We grew up in the same Irish family and have the same background. I watch over him like a hawk because that's what big bros do. He's always been a racist. He too has a college degree. He no longer uses the 'N' word until he's had a few drinks, and then it starts to slip out. He loves Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, O'Reilly, Buchannan- all of them. It is all he knows. He majored in Marketing and I majored in History. We are like Oberman and O'Reilly with each other. One late night we got into it again, and he finally blurted out: "The difference between us is that you support 'N' and I exploit 'N'. It is the natural order because #@&^$ someone has to be on the bottom!" He was getting pretty steamed and had a few too many. I broke up laughing, which cooled him off. I said: "That is absolutely the most honest statement about your position you have ever made." It was. No more hiding behind labels like 'libertarian' or 'conservative' No more hiding behind 'Republican'. It was all out in the open. The whole unvarnished truth. He is just like my Dad, God rest his soul, and that's who he is. I argue with you Anons because I know what it is all really about. So does Sputnik, Senor Willie and Amanda. Mark Williams made it clear and you folks try to slip and slid around it. Deny it all you want. Pretend it is something more philosophical, or honorable. Pretend it is the gov'ment taking away your rights and the gov'ment spending us into oblivion. None of it is the nut of the arguement. The nut of it is cold hard racism. And crap, there's one of them in the White House. That's what digs deeper into your craw than anything else.

Father Farken, you seem to be the unofficial pastor for this flock. Why do you sit by silently while they villify 20 million precious souls as being virulent haters, racists, etc.? You seem only to criticize those who oppose them. This makes me wonder about you. The Tea Party meetings that I attend open with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Race is never mentioned. Everything discussed is about current events, government, politics, etc. I truly believe that this is true of 90% plus of the groups throughout the nation. By and large Tea Partyers are nothing other than what our parents and others of the WWII generation were. I have never heard you speak a tempering word in regard to their excesses. What's up with that?

Hey! Where is all the peace, love, inclusiveness, and desire for diversity that you liberals are always espousing? Or, is that something that you only share with those who walk in political lockstep with you? That seems to be a little bigoted, narrow, and unliberal of you. Are you sure that you have no fascistic, authoritarian, control-freak tendencies? Is there not a bit of hypocrisy here?

NLCommie, I am conservative but I have never, ever heard anyone talk like your caveman brother. I have read some things from some nut cases, but have not ever actually met any cretins like this. I am just being honest (forgive me, Father Farken). You are so racially conscious that it has driven you mad. I don't know a single soul who thinks like you or your brother. Where are the eugenicists now that we need them? Sputnik, are you not going to try to interject any sanity here? This is getting out of hand. You may have some dangerous characters posting here.

The reason that I adopted a libertarian position has to do with my 36 years of working in government. If I were to do a posting of what I have witnessed in terms of ineptitude, corruption, misconduct, etc., etc. it would take hours. I am talking about mind-blowing things that many of you would find hard to believe, as liberal as you are. I have no faith in government for a lifetime of reasons. And, yes government is necessary, but as little of it as possible.

My shift toward the conservative side of the spectrum began with my first job out of college in the private sector. I was in a management trainee position in a large corporation. There was a processing mill outside of the offices. The employees that worked in the mill all happened to be black, but I took no notice of this being a flaming liberal. They had a small local union within the mill. I came to find out the following. There was an employee nick-named 'Pickle' who did absolutely nothing. He even slept on the job. When I asked the plant manager about this, he explained that Pickle was very popular with the other employees and when they attempted to fire him, the rest of the employees would threaten to strike. A production shut down of one day would cost much, much more than Pickle's yearly salary, so they just have to put up with it. One day Pickle shoved his hand into an industrial fan in an attempt to get enough disability to not have to 'work' at all. He didn't qualify because he only cut a couple of fingers partially off and they weren't cut far enough down to qualify. So, Pickle subsequently rammed his hand into the same fan, but his scam was obvious so he got no disability. This was my maiden voyage into the realities of the larger world. Then, I got into education and it was 'Katy bar the door' in terms of mind-blowing experiences. After a while reality made it impossible for me to remain a liberal. It was a trying time, because no one wants to be wrong and eat crow. I had to change my whole persona, eventually, and I really didn't want to. I had so much invested in the liberal camp. I hated the thought of becoming anything like my conservative father, but reality can't be denied for long without either going insane or becoming a hypocrite.

The fundamental problem with government is that it spends other people's money. Ever notice how it is easier to spend money that is given to you as opposed to the money that you worked hard to earn? If you were to work 10 hours some day in the hot sun and took home $50 after taxes, you would be pretty conscious of how that money was spent. It might irritate you to find out that the tax money that you paid was being given to someone who had not worked in the hot sun for it, or otherwise rat-holed. If a rich uncle were to give you money for nothing you would probably spend it much more freely. And, when the goverment runs low on money all they have top do is crack the whip and make the tax payers cough up more under duress...pay up or go to jail. When an organization spends tax money the whole organization is more lax in everything. Why not? The well is bottomless and there is very little accountability (as opposed to the private sector). During my first five years in education, at the end of every year I had to meet with others and spend unused money on things from a catalog that were not needed and that we never saw. It was another one of my baptimal experiences in the real world. I guess that the stuff was either warehoused or stolen by the employees of the warehouse. That was the only way that we could get more money for the next school year. I cringe to think of those in the private sector who sweated for the money that we were rat-holing, but that is the way with government work. Remember the $600 dollar hammers that were ordered from defense contractors? And so it goes in every government-related job from local, to state, to the federal government. It has been estimated that about 50% of every tax dollar is rat-holed, but I'll bet that the figure is significantly higher.

I am not a conservative; I am a Born Again Hippie Capitalist. I believe in all the things I believed in back in the 60's. It is the method to achieve that ideal, is where the dispute should be. There was a story today that 40? of the richest billionaires have pledge to give away half their fortunes before they die. There is a reason they want to do this. If they don’t give it away to non-profits it will be taxed at 56% and possibly more. They would rather direct the money instead of the government.

Conservative is an over-worked term and has different meanings to nearly everyone. My opinions run the gamut from liberal to conservative depending upon the issue. I take some very liberal cultural stances, but am moderate to conservative on others. I think that most people are actually like this. And, a lot of it depends upon who is doing the judging, so the matter is largely in the mind of the beholder. I will probably get slammed for this, but much of my world view comes from my studies of the Bible. Sorry about that. However, I think that I could get along with someone Sputnik socially as long as he doesn't know who I am on this blog, and as long as we stay away from issues that are volitol to us. I could get in touch with my inner flower child and I believe that things would be just fine.

You are mistaken, however, if you think we will not fight back against your constant hatred. We are not turn-the-other-cheek pacifists that you might expect. Right-wing fascism must be confronted. You cannot expect to roll over us and we will stand our ground. Peace and Love is wonderful when there is respect, but Rush Limbaugh has cast his evil across the land and shows us no respect, so none will be shown in return. Are you interested in any of the racist remarks Limbaugh has made over the years? Simply Google 'Rush Limbaugh's 10 most racist quotes' and find out. If you think WE are dangerous, just read Limbaugh, your great leader. The problem is that you right-wingers think everyone is like you and you seldom hear an opposing point of view. Now that you are getting one, you call for Sputnik to intervene and shut us down. Well, he's allowed Anon 1 to speak and start the opening salvo, who told him to cut his hair and take a bath. How very nice. Don't be so upset when we return with our point of view. When it comes to the Tea Party movement, WE are not the problem. YOU and the racism within it are the problem. when i look at our culture now verses when i was a child the positives are enormous for everyone.
believe me i am grateful. and i am not living in a cave and i am not leveling every criticism as raciest.

what i am doing is relating what i learned to the present.
so, when i go to my congressman's town hall meeting and the attendees are more than half teaparty people who will not allow freedom of speech because of their chants and interruptions it makes me queasy; gives me the feeling of having been here before.
and i think it is worth seriously asking the question to those who will not allow my basic freedom to speak; what do you want? why will you not let me speak? what are you afraid of that i am not allowed to hear or answer a question.

those are my observations and impressions and questions.

Alan, the thing which distiguishes you is your intellectual honesty. Isn't it odd that when you come across someone who appears to be scupulously honest you tend to assume that they are conservative? Back in the old hippie days if someone were to have short hair, dress in an unhip way, and were drug free, honest, moral, and upright they were disparagingly called 'straights'. I think that some of that sentiment still lingers within the leftist camp. Actually, it makes sense that it would. Sort of a light vs. darkness thing. Apparently, you are a rare commodity...a liberal who walks in the spirit of light and truth. I could vote for a liberal like you. Here's another issue. What a lot of the biased, bigoted people on this blog don't understand is that white conservatives tend to champion black conservatives. Some of my biggest heroes are black conservatives. I would have voted for Alan Keyes for president in a heartbeat. It is an ideological issue. Folks here are so racially obsessed that they can neither see nor accept that fact. It is vitally important to them to see all conservatives as rabidly racist. I believe that it is some sort of spiritual disease...sort of the flip side of racism. What a shame.

Anon (1? 2? 3? 4? 5?) ---wait, before I get started, how about all you Anons picking a name and show some imagination so I know which Anon I am talking to. I'd pick one for you, but you do need to use your brain for a change...anyway, you are so full of manure. When you go to your Tea Party gatherings and invoke the name of Jesus, how many blacks do you see amongst your sanctified bretheren? What about nationally? Oh, I forgot, it's a philosophical difference, not a racial one. Like your great leader and 'satirist' Mark Wiliams proclaims, black folks as a whole are on welfare, lazy, don't want a job, and are quite content to live in their happy government sponsored slavery. So naturally they won't show up. Oops, that's not it! It is because we liberals have falsely protrayed your movement as racist, so they are frightened to show up. Yes, that must be the reason because they surely can't decide for themselves that you folks are sweet and kind. No, dear Partiers, the reason Blacks do not go is because you KNOW that they KNOW what you are.

Want to hear something ironic? I grew up in the 40's and 50's in a part of the country that had no minorities, so race didn't even exist for me until we moved to the South. Even then, the racism that I witnessed was confined to catcalls that some white kids made toward blacks, usually from buses. I didn't understand what was going on, because I knew absolutely nothing about blacks or other minorities. As I continued to grow up, even in the South, I never heard any discussion of race and no one that I knew was race conscious at all. Of course that probably had something to do with the social crowd that I ran with. We were just not political at all, never read the newspapers, and our interests had nothing to do with race or politics. That continued for me until I entered the world of work. The irony is that to this day, and I am an old man now, the most race conscious people that I know of come from this blog. I am a conservative Tea Partyer and have yet to engage in a racial conversation at any of the meetings and have never heard racial talk of any nature at any of the meetings. I get on this blog and race underlies nearly everything. Actually, I have been stunned by some of the comments made in regard to race on this blog. It is sort of like a religious fanatic that I once knew who saw demons everywhere. The guy was obsessed with demons like many on this blog are obsessed with race and racist...you see them EVERYWHERE. Many liberals purport to have transcended race which is the biggest crock of shit I have ever heard. I NEVER hear anything of a racial nature until I am around liberals. I think that that would be a good area for either sociological or psychological research. Like I have found to be true so often, we tend to be guilty of the very things that we condemn in others.

Anonymous said...

NLCommie, want to hear something interesting? I worked in integrated public schools my entire adult life. Whenever there was time for the kids to mix and mingle like in the lunch rooms, pep rallies, etc. the black kids would congregate together and you would seldom see a white face amongst them, because that was their preference. There was no meanness about it. I assume that they felt more comfortable amongst themselves when they were free to gather in larger numbers. In class they would sit with each other and everything was cool. I never witnessed a racial fight in 36 years in education. Maybe that is why few blacks are interested in going to Tea Party meetings, because they are certainly welcome. Actually, I believe that the reason lies more in the economic domain. For one thing, many blacks don't want smaller government and lower taxes (which are the main things driving the Tea Party) because the government is probably the major employers of blacks and they are the beneficiaries of so many programs funded by tax dollars. That makes sense and I am fine with that. But, nobody is keeping them from the meetings. The Tea Partys would love for more blacks to join if for no other reason than to silence liberal psychos such as yourself. Parenthetically and interestingly, the most red-neck school that I worked at was about 90% lower middle class white and 10% black. Twice while I was there the student body voted for black class presidents by a landslide. Some of the most popular kids were black. But you don't want to hear things like that, because it doesn't fit into your race-obsessed agenda. Like I said previously, I don't experience race obsessiveness till I get on this blog...not in public education, not at Tea Party meetings, nowhere but here.

NLCommieSymp said...

Blather, blather, blather. Blacks know what you are.

Sputnik, I am going to call your bluff. Why don't you go to a local Tea Party meeting to see if all of the dastardly racist stuff that you claim actually occurs there. The meetings are open to anyone...even commies. So, you could take some of your rad buddies like NL Commie with you. The worst part for you would be that you would have to sit through a prayer and stand to say the Pledge of Allegiance, but you could choke down the vomit. Take a mini-recorder with you and a camera phone. Sit in the back to make taking pictures easier. If you uncover anything, you could send it to Bill Maher or CNN and become famous. But, don't you know that this thought has come to other liberals and that some have actually done this. Don't you know that if they found any evidence of racism they would have posted it on tv. The reason you don't see this is because there is nothing to report. It is the same with the $100,000 reward that was offered for any substantiation of the claims of racist attacks on black congressmen...it just DIDN"T happen, that is why. If you won't take the time to do this small amount of research to verify the claims that you have made in this and other commentaries in regard to the Tea Party it will mean that you don't want to know the truth and are content to spread lies and deceit. That will certify that you are a yellow journalist and a scoundrel of the lowest degree. Are you going to take this challenge up or go on with your evil, unsubstantiated smears? I doubt that you will follow through with this. It would be a small, easy thing to do and would only take a couple of hours of your time. As an aside, Father Farken do you see anything wrong with this appeal to uncover truth? For that matter Father, why don't you go to a Tea Party meeting and report what you find. It would be a great service to the people on this blog. I feel sure that you stand in the light of God's truth. I will believe you, but you may catch some flak from the rads here. Many who are from 'the other side' have an aversion to truth, as you well know. If you have nothing bad to report, some of them may get so mad that you may have to perform exorcisms on them.

Anonymous said...

NLCommie, you are either crazy or you are joking with me. I think that I already know which it is.

Great idea Anon 2:03 PM. I will be eager to read Sputnik's reply. Actually I'll be very surprised if he responds to your challenge though. I think that you have trapped him in the web of his own deceit. That will probably piss him and his buds off. It's dangerous to attempt to tear the mask off of one from 'the other side' as you put it. Some of them can become violent when you do that. The blog priest may actually have to perform an exorcism. Maybe that would cut down on some of the lying.

You crusaders are fighting a losing battle. One of the prime ploys of Marxists is to lie like dogs when it comes to anything that will advance their cause. The end justifies the means is their war cry so they will do literally anything to advance their cause even if it is genocide. In other words, you are wasting your time. None of them will ever go to a Tea Party meeting precisely because they don't want to have anything to do with truth. Truth is a huge problem for all who advance their cause by lying because it is the only thing that can stop them. My bet is that Sputnik will ignore you because you put him in a corner that he can't wiggle out of.

Hey, Anons, what a GREAT idea! I'll take a camera and photograph all the Blacks there, I'll invite our local NAACP and they can read Mark Williams' letter to the Tea Party Congregation and tell them why it is so offensive to Blacks. I'll have the local CBS affiliate( not Fox) record all the boos and cat-calls while it is being read to these yahoos! We won't let them know ahead of time so they can't be instructed to stay polite. I can also bring Senor Willie so he can tell them what he thinks and then see if they drown him out like they did last time. What a blast! I wish I had thought of it!

NLCommieSymp said...

Hey, wait a minute, you didn't invite ME, only Sputnik. I thought you guys were polite. And who are you calling a Marxist? Where did THAT lie come from? You think anyone who disagrees with you is a nasty Red? I'm a proud capitalist too, I'll have you know. I'm sure you picked up that from Rush. Everyone is a Marxist or Socialist with you guys. You even think Obama is a Red, and born in Kenya too! Little bro is always telling me this stuff and sending me all his right-wing emails. Then I have to send him back Scopes.com. disproving it all. But he thinks Scopes is a commie front, so it all turns out to be a waste of time, like dealing with you fools. The last thing he sent was how American Muslims won't have to pay for Health Care Reform. Go figure. No, don't tell me...you think that is true too?! He thinks Alex Jones is a genius with all his conspiracy theories about the Bildenberg group and a one-world government. Please don't tell me you guys believe that stuff. But heck you think Sputnik is a Marxist so... come to think of it, who would call themselves 'Sputnik' if he weren't a commie?

NLCommie, I am counting on you to actually follow through with what you said and attend a Tea Party meeting. I'll bet that you are too cowardly to do that. Your illusions would be dispelled and you have to have your illusions to sustain the house of cards that is your mind. Your kind would NEVER,EVER attend a Tea Party meeting, primarily because you really don't want to know the truth. You take too much comfort in the webs of deceit that you spin. Prove me wrong...attend a meeting. Better yet keep going back until you can find something concrete to report. After years of attendance, to your dismay you would have nothing to report. Wouldn't it be a scream if after going to a few meetings you were to join them. That kind of cognitive dissonance would probably cause you to commit suicide.

NLCommie, one more thing. You make your brother out to be a right- wing nut. I have nothing to do with nut cases from either the right or the left. If he is as bad as you say he is, then I can understand why you rant like you do. Especially if you think that everyone of a conservative bent is like your brother. Remember the posting that said most ideological positions can be seen as a spectrum? That means that there are many variations and degrees of conservative thought, liberal thought, etc. All liberals do not think alike or hold to the same positions. The same is true of conservatives. Get it? It is beginning to seem like you folks are so inured to thinking in collectivist terms that you have completely lost sight of the fact that there are individuals and individual differences. In other words, you can't see the trees for the forest.

Anonymous said...

NLCommie, do some research into Marxism and history. Then, you will see that when Marxism gets a firm enough grip on a nation, genocide often follows. Ever heard of Stalin, Mao, or Pol Pot? Actually, it may be more accurate to say that genocide tends to follow countries that succumb to totalitarianism or total government than to restrict it to just one political philosophy. The only thing that stands between the American citizens and tyranny is the Constitution or to be more specific, the Bill of Rights. If the Bill of Rights is undermined then it is welcome to the gulag time.

Hey, Anon (1,2,3,4,5,7,8?) I earned my name so get it right. It's NLCommieSYMP. don't forget the SYMP. It stands for 'sympathiser'. The whole story is in an earlier note:
"Having never written here previously to the earlier post, I was getting ready to give my name when my wife walked in and said "what are you doing?"
"Well, use that then." End of discussion."
So that's the story of how I chose my name. I can pick one for you too if you'd like. How about...RealAmerican...no that's what Hannity calls everyone he agrees with, which would be you, but it would be stealing from him. What about 'DingBat' ? I like that, even though it is what Rush calls everone he disagrees with. Yeah, Anon 1, how about DingBat? Let's think some more about names for your buddies because they can't seem to think of any. Must be too hard for them.

Anonymous said...

NLCommieSymp it is. By the way, do you know what they say about folks who resort to name calling? I would explain, but I don't want to insult you. That would bring me down to your level and I could never live in such a dark place. So. I will think happy thoughts in your regard.

NLCommieSymp said...

So I'm a Marxist bent on genocide? That is very funny. If you know anything about politics, you should know that liberals like me are hated by the Commies. See, liberals believe in the Constitution and Bill of Rights, Commies don't. But Commies can really connect with righties like you because righties would be glad to suspend the Constitution if it suited their purpose. About little bro... he may believe in the Tea Party, and a few conspiracy theories, both of which are pretty stupid, but he knows his big bro is no Marxist, which definitely makes him smarter that you.

Anonymous said...

NLCommieSymp, nobody said that YOU were a Marxist. I don't even know you. Read with a little more discernment. Remember the spectrum thing? Though Sputnik may not be a classical Marxist and follow the party line, I think that he would tell you that he falls somewhere on the Marxist/socialist spectrum. I would be willing to bet that something like 30-40% of Americans would classify themselves as socialists to one degree or another. So, if I say that this is a Marxist bolg, I don't necessarily mean in the full-blown, classical sense. It would probably be better to say that it is a socialist-leaning blog and I don't think that Sputnik himself would take exception to that.

NLCommieSymp said...

You are quite right right, calling someone a DingBat is pretty rude, tho Rush Limbaugh calls people that all the time and that's alright with you. Calling liberals genocidal Marxist seems to be ok with you too, but let's forget it all and go for the good kharma and positive light, and abolish racism.

Anonymous said...

NLCommieSymp, I have never called liberals genocidal Marxists. I said that Marxism has a history of being genocidal. Not all liberals are Marxists and not all Marxists are radical nut jobs. I was merely pointing to the fact that for a country to follow a Marxist track can wind up being a dangerous thing. Do you have ADD? You seem to imagine that I say things that I don't say and that could be an attention deficit problem. And what makes you think that I am OK with Rush's name calling? I have never mentioned Rush or Hannity or Beck on this blog. Do you hear voices in your head?

"You crusaders are fighting a losing battle. One of the prime ploys of Marxists is to lie like dogs when it comes to anything that will advance their cause. The end justifies the means is their war cry so they will do literally anything to advance their cause even if it is genocide."

Let's parse that one, shall we, Anon? You started off by characterizing EVERYONE on this blog who does not share your bizarre view of the world as a "crusader", whatever the hell that means, and immediately attach the tags of Marxist, lying dog, war cry, and genocide to it. No voices in my head, Anon. It's there in black and white. No amount of sophistry on your part can explain it away. Your purpose is clear.

Any reasonable person can read that sentence, and the others that follow in your subsequent posts, and discern exactly what you mean to insinuate. Your ham-fisted persiflage does nothing to offset your abysmally inept efforts to paint your opponent with innuendo. Better drop the tactic, Anonymous. You're no damn good at it.

I'm no liberal, I'm no leftist, and I'm no hippy. But I know the truth when I see it, and I've seen enough antics, first hand, of your Tea Party buddies to know that they aren't on the right side of this argument at all. And neither are you.

After visiting shut-ins last week I visited one of those Tea Parties in the Metro section of NashVegas! I was impressed with the gathering. A great mix. About a fifth of the folks were black. Lot more younger folks than I expected! There were a lot of political opinions expressed from the left as well as the right from some very open minded people but I must admit that bullshit & laughter seemed to win over @ the end. There didn't seem to be one leader & after an hour and a half I lead this group with an Invocation which led to some very strange glances. There was no pledge of allegiance but I did play The American Trilogy by the late great Elvis Presley which brought tears to the eyes of many. The tea was quite exceptional! 1/2 oz Vodka, 1/2 oz rum, 1/2 oz gin, 1/2 oz triple sec, 1/2 tequela, 1 oz lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of sugar, cola, ice in a big old glass. We Southerners are getting quite open hearted cuz they had this lovely tea shipped from those yankees in Long Island! The Peace of the Lord! Father Fergus Farken

Mr Anon; I took me a minute, but now I recognize you. You're my ole mountain man, semi-recluse, quasi-survivalist buddy. Have you gotten your black pajamas yet? There are no black people where you live so no wonder race never comes up.
I will grant you that there are some sane conservatives within the movement who are concerned about the size of government and the deficit.
But there are also alot of people walking around with signs depicting Obama as a witch doctor and a savage. And is there really a Marxist stae in the world other than N. Korea? It's time to retire that old broadside.
As some of you likewise did, I took part in the anti-war demonstrations of the 60s, and when I went to D.C. for the moratorium and sat on the mall, some far-left radicals had staked a place right up front where they were chanting obscenities and flying the VietCong flag. I thought our purpose was to pursuade the undecided to support our cause, but I knew flying the enemy's flag was counter-productive to that end, and I said so. As much good as one 20 yr. old's voice was, I said so on campus, in meetings, and in demonstrations, that the radical leftists were alienating reasonable people with their rhetoric and behavior. This has now happened within the Tea Party.
This Mark Williams wasn't a random Tea Party member. He was the chairman of one of their major groups who made a damn fool of himself. The Tea Party is part concerned conservatives, and part ugly reactionaries that lack focus about just what they're mad about. There are racists in your midst. Denounce them or absorb the critique.
One thing the Tea Party sorely lacks is a sense of humor. You tell me to attend a TP rally; I did. It was called the Town Hall meeting of Aug. 2009. Maybe you saw me on the news, nose to nose with some protester from outside the district trying to disrupt Rep. Cohen's speech.
And Alan is right. The TP members tended to be more highly educated and wealthier than average, which is all the greater shame for their selfishness. The Party was feeling its muscles then, disrupting public meetings all over the nation, appearing with holstered weapons at public events, the endless Hitler comparisons, death panels, birth certificates, government takeovers, communism.
And as soon as you got some sufficient blowback for those undemocratic tactics, the Tea Party became the aggrieved party. Suddenly, it was the Tea Party under criticism, and the response was not to denounce racist actions by TP affiliates, but to lash out against the accusers and call them reverse racists because they've been keeping the white man down. This is the reason Breitbart released his half of the Sherrod video. As I see it, the TP is only minorly interested in economics and majorly about social issues. They're anti-government, anti-tax, anti-gay, anti-NAACP, anti-ACLU, anti-feminist, and specifically, anti-Obama.
The TP may win a few elections in the short run, but demagoguery never lasts. If the TP is to be a real movement, there is some introspection needed about their direction, instead of handing the megaphone over to idiots like Palin and Bachmann and allowing them to claim to speak for the majority.
I've observed a major shift from offense to defense in one year of the TP's existence and one thing is certain: You can dish it out, but you sure can't take it.

Father Farken, as you know one must be honest before he can be reverent. I will submit that one must be honest before he can be a true journalist. If he is not, then he is merely a smear monger. In the current commentary Sputnik has appointed himself judge, jury, and executioner of the 20 million people who are in the Tea Party. He has proclaimed that it is a virulently racist organization without so much as attending a single meeting to see for himself what goes on there. This may be the most breath-taking demonstration of extreme prejudice that I have ever witnessed. To be prejudiced means that one makes up his mind before knowing the facts. I am certain that he will never attend a Tea Party meeting to see for himself what goes on there, because if he is proven wrong it may cause permanent damage to his radical mindset. He would be torn by guilt, because on one hand he would feel that he should eat crow and tell his choir the truth. On the other hand, the strength of his prejudices would prevent him from doing so. This type of cognitive dissonance is painful to live with, because in his heart he would know that he is a hypocritical fraud. That being said, I beg you to attend a Tea Party meeting. Meet some of the people there and ask questions. Go to several meetings if you will. You can view this as a ministry to the TRUTH that you serve. And, as a service to those who congregate here, report what you find...good, bad, or ugly. No one else here is serious about truth (they only serve their prejudices), but you must be, unless you are part of the collusion. I know that you are not, because you at least know that you will stand before God one day to give an account. You may be the only one on this blog who believes this. If there are others, I beg your pardon. Father, I beseech you. PLEASE attend at least one meeting and let us know what you find.

Anonymous said...

Alexander Fleming, I was not referring to everyone on this blog as a crusader. Do you also have ADD? I was addressing the one or two who urge Sputnik and others on this blog to attend a Tea Party meeting. I was speaking specifically to the few who post here who critize Sputnik's point of view. I never said that all Marxists are genocidal. I said that through history some Marxist regimes have resorted to genocide and that there is a risk for any country to pursue Marxist doctrine. The thing about lying, the means justifying the ends, and genocide is true of the radical Marxists. Ask Stalin or Mao. You seem to be intelligent. I feel sure that you weren't intentionally twisting my words. Please read more carefully.

Anonymous said...

Father, I posted before seeing your last post. I am glad that you went to the Nashville meeting, but would you consider going to a Memphis area Tea Party meeting? And, if possible to several so that you can get a broader idea. Sometimes the organizations call themselves 'We The People'. My primary concern is the charge of racism. If you contend that they are racists, I will seriously consider distancing myself from them. By the way Sputnik, for the first 9 years of my life I lived in a part of the country that had no minorities. For the next 53 years I lived in cities where blacks made up the majority. I moved to the boonies just a few years ago. I have worlds of experience living amongst minorities. I have always judged people by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. To be absolutely truthful, many of the blacks that I have known and worked with were better people than I will ever be. In fact, I have known some young black men and women that I wouldn't have minded calling my sons or daughters. I loved and admired them. Two of my past bosses were black and they were the best administrators that I ever worked with. Does that sound like the testimony of a racist to you? I am sure that you will think of some way to call me a racist anyway. It is a sickness.

Anonymous said...

In some people's minds judging people by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin is not good enough. To them, if you criticize any black for any reason you are a racist. Anon, you are the primary crusader that was being referred to earlier. Give up or remain a whipping boy for these people.

Alexander Fleming said...

Anonymous,

Sorry, that doesn't wash. You said what you said, and you didn't say "some". You said, and let's just summarize by jumping along the flagstones of your statement... "Crusaders..., prime ploy..., Marxists..., lying like dogs..., etc., etc., even if it's genocide." and so on.

This is characteristic of most of your posts, when I can pick them out of the other Anonymouses who post here. And yes, I do read them carefully. No need to twist your words. Your tone and meaning are completely transparent.

Why would you include all that drivel about Marxists and lying dogs and genocide, in the same paragraph if it wasn't your purpose to ascribe those qualities to the persons you are addressing?

And Anon, one more thing. Cut out the ad hominem crap. It takes the edge off of what you must think is your sarcasm, which is dull enough as it is.

Anonymous said...

Alexander, I am the one who composed the post referring to crusaders. I am here to tell you that you took what was said in a wrong way. Maybe I should have phrased it in a plainer manner. When I spoke of 'crusaders' I was speaking specifically in regard to those few who criticize Sputnik's opinions. If I was addressing the readership of this blog in toto, and you called me on it I wouldn't bother to reply, because I would know that you are right. But in this case, you are mistaken. Again, the remarks about Marxists lying and using whatever means to achieve their ends, and of many of their ilk being genocidal is not original. Those things have been said about Marxism for many years by many people. I have already said that I don't believe that Sputnik is a hard-line, classical Marxist. I believe that he is on the harmless end of the spectrum...just a garden variety socialist. You would come across in a more effective way if you would quit posing as a pseudo-intellectual with all of your polysyllabic words. Who are you trying to impress? It doesn't work well for you. You probably consult a thesaurus when you write your posts. Believe me, it just doesn't work well for you. You come across like a slightly brighter version of NLCommieSymp. No offense meant to you, NLCommieSymp. I was becoming rather fond of you.

Anonymous said...

Alexander, one more thing. The connection between your brain and your mouse finger shows signs of some sort of confusion or distortion. I am not trying to be funny. There is a problem with your delivery. When I was a counselor, I would have referred someone like you to a neurologist.

Anonymous said...

One last thing. I was telling the crusaders to forget their crusade because of the futility of trying to change the Marxist mindset. Apparently, I should have been more clear. Forgive me for confusing you. I will try to be more careful in the future.

Alexander Fleming said...

Why, Anonymous,

Exactly which polysyllabic, or should I say, "big", words are you having trouble with? Do you know how very SILLY that sounds? Coming from a person who is posing as a pseudo-adult?

Apparently no one ever told you, that belittling someone for using good language skills, and suggesting that the consulting of a reference, had I actually done so, would somehow be tantamount to cheating, is insulting on many levels. And it reveals a great deal about deficiencies (oh, there I go again...) in your own intellectual rigor as well.

You're just digging yourself ever deeper pal.

Anonymous said...

This is becoming puerile. Next subject, please. I will admit to being facetious, but this is beginning to get downright silly.

Alexander Fleming said...

Puerile... Facetious... Wow, now *I'm* impressed. However, you should be careful about the use of such "big" words. Especially after you have self-proclaimed your preference for a limited vocabulary, especially on the part of others.

It started out silly a long time ago, when you started flinging the Marxism and genocide around in your remarks.

Would you clear something up for me... are you also the same Anonymous who likes to invoke "Hitler" in your criticism of Sputnik and his choir? I just need some way to keep you guys sorted out properly.

Anonymous said...

I will say this much for Sputnik. He seldom censors and is a good sport when it comes to political sparring. He seldom looses his temper, gets thrown off stride, or resorts to nastiness. I respect him for that. Much of my slamming of him is hyperbole and I think that he sees that. My bark is worse than my bite. Actually, I would rather drink a cold brewsky and smoke a bowl with him. I am sure that he is a good guy because he has so many friends. That says a lot in his behalf. Life is more than meat, drink, or politics. Believe it or not, I would much rather laugh than fight and in everyday life seldom mention politics. I am more of a nature boy than anything else. That is the reason that I moved to the boonies. It is just so damn much fun to fuck around with you guys. I have tried to quit, but keep coming back. That should be taken as a compliment by Sputnik. If this blog wasn't fun, no one would participate.

Anonymous said...

Alex, comparing Sputnik to Hitler would be a bit of a stretch. I don't think that there is much of a future in communicating with you any longer. It does nothing to further discourse and you don't interest me. Lighten up, bro. It was more fun prattling with NLCommieSymp.

Alexander Fleming said...

You're quite right about the failure to further discourse. You never respond to anything anyone says to you, other than to suggest that they have ADD, or to call them a mental midget, or a political whore, or a host of other choice pejoratives in your kit bag of blather.

Prattle, prattle.

You tire of the game already? That's fine, Anonymous. Run away.

NLCommieSymp said...

Sorry to have taken a brief break, Alex, but I have to make a living. I've enjoyed your intelligence and vocabulary, even if Anon (1,2,3,4,5,whatever) thinks it too high brow for his taste. Why is all this nonsense talk about Socialism, Marxism, genocide, etc. even being discussed? Because these words are common currency in the world of right-wing commentary on radio and television. In this world, Obama is freely called a Socialist, a Marxist, and a Communist. Since he is portrayed this way, genocide is the next leap, and those who support him are, therefore, Socialists, Marxists, and genocidal Communists. This ridiculous talk has been going on for so long in this right-wing world that it is an accepted starting point of agreement within the right. It is only natural that these words have emerged in this blog by Tea Party members. In the old South, supporters of segregation of the races often referred to integrationists as Communists. Naturally, integration was a government enforced plot against the established order. As the South and much of America became increasingly Republican in reaction to LBJ and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, this racial bigotry blended well with the anti-government sentiment of the Tea Party of today. Obama, being Black, is therefore anti-White, goes the thinking. What we now have is this emerging movement with the mixture of racism combined with anti-government sentiment and the belief that Obama, an African-American, is a Socialist, Marxist, and Communist, as are his followers. We, those who don't agree with the TP, are therefore DANGEROUS people. Do ALL of the people in the TP believe all of this? Probably not ALL, but so many do that it defines the TP.

Anonymous said...

Alex, you present more no game to play. At least NLCommieSymp articulates his position well whether one agrees with it or not. If his thoughts are sincere, and I am sure that they are, I won't bother him with my take. We just live in two different worlds, but isn't that what diversity and the forum of ideas is all about? NLCommiesymp covered a lot of ground in his last post and I can see somthing of how he came to think and believe the way that he does. In fact, he has done a better job of articulating the liberal position in regard to the Tea Party than anyone else that I have read so far. Way to go, NLCommieSymp. Please notice that I am fulfilling your wishes by using your full name every time.

Alexander Fleming said...

Anonymous,

Where have I failed to articulate my position? Does what I say to you leave any doubt regarding my position, that it is necessary to articulate it to you further?

When did I ever suggest that you have ADD, or a neurological disorder, or call you a political whore, or a mental midget? Or suggest that you are a pseudo-intellectual? You have suggested all these things, to others, and to me, and you are suggesting that I am the one who resorts to nastiness? You're nasty from the get-go, I'm just pointing it out to you, in the most amiable manner that the current circumstances allow. So, if you weren't aware of that shortcoming before, I'm sure you must be now. Something to work on, going forward.

NLCS said...

Alex, try as you may to talk intelligently with this guy, he, like his heroes on right-wing radio and tv, will resort to insults. He reminds me of the clown sitting on the chair over the tub of water at the fair. His game is to constantly insult, in an effort keep you angry and throw pitches at the target. The angrier you get, the more often you will try to hit the target. He gets great enjoyment over this game. It is time to leave him, knowing he will hurl insults as you leave. Know that he is a fool and a racist. You will win by leaving him alone.
So long anon.

The government recently shut down a seven year old girl's lemonade stand, because she couldn't meet government regulations. Congress is in the process of pushing for a ban on chewing tobacco in major league baseball. In light of all of the gov. regulations showering down upon us, I have wondered why the government has not moved to regulate the size of the male erect penis. As all feminists know, an erect penis is a weapon that has terrorized women for ages. It has been recently learned that feminists have a secret plan to push for legislation that would restrict the length of the male organ to no more than 4". This would prevent rupture of the vagina as well as circumvent the danger of choking. When Bawney Fwank caught wind of this he had a hissy fit scweaming woudwy, 'No one is going to mutiwate the meat of my wover!' The rest of the homosexual lobby is incensed as well. It will be one powerful liberal lobby locking horns with another. It will be interesting to see how this new power move plays out. How will the gov. implemnt this measure logistically? My bet is that they will use existing meat packing plants. But, what will they do with all of the lost inches from tens of millions of men? That poses a medical waste problem. Perhaps the excess inches could be added to pet foods or be used to form organic mulch and be sold at health food stores. Since the government plans to ultimately regulate every conceivable human behavior, I am betting on the government. I can feel 'Willie Boy' trembling in my trousers at the very thought.

Gatormama1, thanks for taking off the mask and revealing the breath-taking hypocrisy of liberaldom. Liberals choose certain groups that are sacrosanct to them like blacks, hispanics, and gays, but think nothing of putting down poor backward whites like swamp men and mountain men. Aren't they a product of their culture, parenting, and lack of education, etc.? Where is the compassion for these societal losers? Where are the open arms of inclusiveness and the welcome of diversity? Are swamp men and mountain men any worse than black or hispanic gangbangers who steal, rape, kill, and peddle drugs? Why not raise some sort of caring movement to raise the consciousness of the poor white trash which you scorn? Earlier, Sputnik made some sort of negative comment about this type of person also. What does one have to do or be to be placed on the liberal preferred treatment list...have a greater amount of melanin in their skin, or be omnisexual? You people are overtly racist. Your version of racism just has a different twist to it, and you carry on with a smug sense of superiority. It makes me want to vomit.

Why do you whiners bother with the people on this blog? Do you really think that they will ever come out and say yes you are right? They know who and what they are but you are the enemy and they will never fully admit their agenda to you. They believe that the constitution is an out dated joke and that racist, sexist, homophobic America is the source of every evil in the world. They are counting the days until America is dead and gone but they will only acknowledege these things among themselves in private. Someday they will realize their folly but then it will be too late. Then it will be tough shit for everybody. You will never change their thinking so why try? They will only learn by the suffering that they bring about by their own folly. And maybe not even then.

Randy Haspel said...

You right-wingers love the Constitution so much, except parts of the 1st Amendment that deal with separation of church and state, and the 14th, since we wouldn't want to offer equal protection under the law to brown people or Muslims. And that federal marriage amendment proposed by the criminal Bush, and a constitutional ban on abortion. Other than that, you worship that Constitution. I don't even have to reply any longer. Every sentence you type reveals your latent bigotry and all you do is prove my point. You believe you're knowledgeable but you're propagandized and you mistake insight for indoctrination. Worst of all, you've become boring.

Insight?! All that you 'see' is what has been filtered through the lens of your deceived mind. We each live in a different mental/moral galaxy. I am as stupified by what you call your insight as you are in regard to mine. There are lots of folks on your side and lots of folks on mine. I say let God sort it all out. If the truth sets us free, then the progressives will have us all in bondage in short order. My take is that the progressives will win in the short run, but the TRUTH will prevail in the end. No use arguing about this. We can all just pull up a chair and watch the drama unfold. What actually happens, aka reality, will tell the tale and will ultimately silence all of the rhetorical chin music. Those who side with TRUTH will prevail in the end and lots of folks will be surprised at how it all plays out. No sense in arguing the inarguable...we will have to wait and see how it all shakes out.

This clip is a rendition of an anti-war speech given by a Major General in the Marines back in the 1930's. It is entitled 'War Is A Racket'. It is the kind of thing that was never covered in schools or by the media back in that day...too inflammatory. The capitalist pigs who value money over the lives of people, and this includes adherents of both political parties, want to keep this kind of thing quiet. Sputnik will absolutely love it, because it vindicates much of what he stands for and what he has said about war in the past. I offer this in the spirit of peace and reconciliation. More revelations like this might even push me back to the left a little. Check it out.
